Hoarding, gross filth cleanup and the removal of trash and debris from a hoarding site, typically involves cleaning the building or residence that a reasonable person would find uninhabitable. Often this is due to a combination of filth and debris from hoarding, fecal matter, excessive trash, expired food, odor, boxed items, mold, mildew, etc., these extreme situations often require the services of trained professionals. The task of cleaning an area of gross filth, often referred to as hoarding cleanup, can be challenging and often impossible for an individual untrained in decontamination and odor removal. Our technicians are trained in locating and safely eliminating mold, mildew, asbestos and fecal matter can contribute to serious illnesses if proper precautions are not taken while cleaning a gross filth or hoarding site.

Our specialty is navigating the physical clutter, and we know that only represents the tip of the iceberg.  The "emotional clutter" is hidden below the surface.  We don't specialize in that, be we seek partnerships with those who do, whether it is the client's therapist or a counselor/therapist who is brought in to the case.

All our organizers are employees, who are bonded and insured.  We are associated with the National Association of Professional Organizers (NAPO), and Matt Baier is the upcoming NAPO-CT President.  We are also professional members of the Institute of Challenging Disorganization (ICD) and the Connecticut Hoarding Working Group.

Founded in 1982, the Anxiety Disorders Clinic was the first in the nation devoted to research and treatment of anxiety problems. Although the idea that anxiety could take the form of specific disorders had been increasingly recognized, little systematic information about these disorders was available at the time. The clinic has been a driving force behind the recent advances in the recognition, understanding, and/or treatment of anxiety disorders such as posttraumatic stress disorder(link is external), panic disorder, social phobia, obsessive-compulsive disorder and others. Our counterpart Hispanic Clinic offers research treatment in Spanish and is a valuable asset in the community.

The OCD research program is dedicated to the mission of improving the lives of people with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and related disorders by conducting cutting edge research to transform how we understand and treat these disorders. For the patients of today, we examine how to combine and sequence current treatments to maximize outcome, and we explore novel treatments. For the patients of tomorrow, we collaborate with experts in neuroimaging, genetics, and basic science to examine what causes obsessions and compulsions.

Island Trauma Services provides expert Hoarding Cleanup Services and Clutter Cleaning and Removal throughout New York, Long Island, Connecticut and New Jersey. We understand the sensitive nature that accompanies a hoarding cleanup. Our goal is to make our clients feel safe and comfortable with the cleanup process. We will take it one step at a time and proceed as slow or as quickly based on our client's needs. We do not have a one size fits all approach. There is no reason to feel embarrassed, we have performed many hoarding cleanup jobs from Level one to Level five. We will work within your budget and at a pace that is comfortable for you.

Hoarding is characterized by the accumulation of large amounts of items that can make a home unsafe and no longer a viable living space. With this level of content accumulation, there are inherent dangers that may exist in the living space which require trained professionals to assess and treat the area.

Hoarding can also be associated with animal waste, human waste and in some cases, decomposition. Gross filth can contain a variety of pathogens capable of causing physical illness and sometimes even death. Complete remediation and restoration of these areas can be a difficult and time consuming task. Island Trauma Services technicians are trained to handle these situations. Protecting you and your family is our primary concern. We make every effort to preserve salvageable items and always work in a compassionate, discreet and professional manner.

Island Trauma Services provides expert extreme cleaning services that incorporate property cleanup, odor removal, sanitation and disinfection. Our professional team of highly trained technicians will declutter and clean the area thoroughly. We will make every effort to perform the cleanup as quickly as possible. We will assist in the sorting of the items to separate any salvageable property and valuables. Property that requires temporary removal such as furniture and personal belongings can be stored in a secure place. Structural contents such as carpets, curtains, appliances, can be cleaned or removed depending on their condition and the customers’ needs. We will thoroughly clean and decontaminate the home. Restoration of the home to a livable and clean condition is our goal.

Water Removal and Flood Damage Restoration

A broken pipe, flood or sewer backup are situations that need to be dealt with quickly and handled by a staff with the training and knowledge to make certain that the job is done right. The proper drying and sanitizing of a structure goes beyond simple extraction and air movement. Through the use of state of the art moisture detection equipment and continual monitoring, ITS makes certain that your home is thoroughly restored to its pre-loss condition.  Out team is comprised of IICRC certified technicians, trained in the latest and most effective techniques used in the drying process.

Mold Removal Mold Remediation

When a water event is not dealt with in a timely fashion, it may result in a mold condition. Mold can grow on organic or cellulosic material such as sheet rock, wood, paper or cardboard (particularly in a warm and moist environment). Aside from its unpleasant odor, mold can have an adverse effect to your health and respiratory system. With Applied Microbial Remediation training, the team at Island Trauma Services are trained to eradicate mold damage the right way.  Proper mold remediation techniques include the use of Air Filtration Systems, High Efficiency Particulate Air Vacuuming and even pre and post remediation air testing to qualify results
